Happy Valentine’s Day from your cat and dog

Crazy as it sounds, you can actually buy Valentine's Day cards for your pets and from them.  What on earth is that all about?

"Happy Valentine's Day from your cat", one read.  I didn't get to read the inside to see if there was a message, but it wouldn't surprise me if it said, "Inside left blank for your paw print".

They are part of the family for most pet lovers, a loving companion whom some choose to show their affection with pampered gifts, luxury treats, a frequent cuddle and then some.

But is this commercialisation a step too far?  For a couple of pound a card, Is there not a better use of your hard earned cash?   I bet the cat or dog won't hold it against you if you accidentently forget.  That money could be better spent going to charity, such as the RSPCA.

Maybe a singleton with a pet wants to give and receive on this day on not feel left out, given that millions of people own a cat or dog in the UK.   But it seems the greetings card industry are seeking any opportunity or occasion to make the sale.

Thankfully I don't a pet and won't be sucked into this retail frenzy. However I did succumb to buying one for a special person in my life. If I didn't, I'd be finding myself in the dog house for sure, and be forced to buy one of these "from your dog" cards pretty sharpish with my tail between my legs.

You really have to love February 14th, don't you!
