Jim
Haysom is focused and
motivated on running the London Marathon
2005 on Sunday 17th
April having ran last
years marathon and raising
raising money for
the Arthritis Research
Campaign (arc).
With his father having
suffered for over a decade
with Ankylosing Spondylitis,
and due for a hip
replacement at the young age of
47, Jim raised
£2,665.35 for the
charity.
Now
Jim is preparing for the FLM
2005 by getting back to the
training and entering
competitive races once
again. Check out the
progress on his first Nike
10k Run when he will
challenge his brother and
RunLondon.
London
Marathon 2004 Background
"I am
currently in training for
the 26.2 mile run around the
city, which will be my first
attempt. Not only is
this a physical challenge,
but a mental one too! I
have been successful in
gaining a Gold Bond, so it will be
such an exciting and rewarding
day. It would be an
added bonus to run for the
Charity's Team and raise
money for a well deserved
cause. Also, I would
love to see my Dad standing there at the finish
line with a big smile on his
face!", says Jim.
Please
sponsor me online at www.justgiving.com/jimhaysom.
You
can make a charity donation
on the website as it only
takes a few minutes.
It's
much easier for me to
collect sponsorship money
this was too! Also, if
you are a UK taxpayer your
donation will be increased
by 28% at no cost
to you.
Thank
you to all my personal and
corporate sponsors in
2004. Now I'm looking
forward to running the Flora
London Marathon 2005.
My
14
Week Marathon Training
Schedule
I
am aiming
for a 4:30 hour race, and am
following the training
programme given to me from arc.
However, I am trying to
stick to it as best I can
between flying round the
world and working in
London.
Below
is a my actual actual
progress, so you comfortably
know that I capable of
finishing before it is
dark! To run a 4:30
marathon, it is
approximately doing a 10
minute mile, all the way
round! Click here to
see a course map.
Training
officially started on
Saturday 10th January with a
light 4 mile jog across
Blackheath Common (the start
of the marathon). If
fact, I actually did more
like 3 miles due to the
excessive amount of calories
I had put on in Sydney,
Thailand and over Christmas.
It was well worth it, as it
was a training day for all
the runners who are running
for arc.

My
Personal Race Report:
Flora London Marathon
2004
"So
I thought best that I
write down what the
event was actually
like. To almost
everyone reading this,
running a marathon is
something that is on
their "before I
get old, to do
list".
Indeed, we have all
grown up watching it
on the telly, laughing
at the fools running
around our capital in
fancy dress, and
admiring every person
who crosses the finish
line. 'Cause you
wouldn't catch me
doing that... I
reminisce.
Well,
I did it! No
matter how many times
people have
questioned, "What
time did you do it
in?", I feel time
is actually irrelevant
for such an
event. In fact,
an event is the wrong
word, as training for
this "fun
run" started in
over 3 months
ago. Maybe we
should call this an
"experience".
Training
has been tough, total
of 160 miles, and I
can look back now,
post marathon, and
reflect on those late
nights running the
streets of Crawley in
the dark and pounding
rain. A breathe
of fresh air for the
long runs out of town,
but in fairness,
without it, I would
never have got this
far.
Arriving
at Blackheath Common
at the start filled me
with both
uncontrollable adrenalin
and anxiety. Firstly
the trek across the
common to the red
start was far enough
from the train
station, but seeing so
many people in the
pens at the start was
quite
overwhelming.
Thousands, as far as
the eye could see,
just like the
television cameras
show, stretched all
along the path in
multitudes of colour,
fabric, shapes, sizes
and all of ages!
It
took over 17 minutes
to get to the start
line, but once through
those gates, it was
such a rush. The
crowds were pretty
thin for the first
half a mile, but that
was okay. Most
people were trying to
find their feet and
next steps, as it was
like a supermarket
